📐 Katherine Johnson Prize for Most Kills
Katherine Johnson (1918–2020) was a pioneering mathematician whose precise calculations were critical to the success of early U.S. space missions. Working at NASA during a time of both racial and gender segregation, she overcame barriers to become one of the most respected “human computers” of the space program. Johnson’s work ensured the accuracy of trajectories, launch windows, and return paths for missions including John Glenn’s historic orbit of Earth and the Apollo 11 moon landing. Her blend of mathematical brilliance and perseverance not only helped send humans into space but also paved the way for greater inclusion of women and African Americans in STEM.
